Introduction
Founded in 1954, the National Federation of Spiritual Healers is acknowledged to be the principle organization for spiritual healing in the United Kingdom, with more than 6,000 members working individually and in Centres throughout the country. There is also a growing overseas membership. NFSH is a registered charity and operates through regional committees serving the membership within their geographical boundaries. A Council of nationally elected representatives and officers are the governing board of trustees.

The NFSH is not associated with any religion, -ism or –ology. It does see the source of healing as divine, but respects the right of every individual to his or her own interpretation of that source. The word ‘spiritual' in title refers to the quality of spirituality implicit in the healing process. Members of the NFSH are bound by a strict Code of Conduct.

What the NFSH does
Indentifies potential healers
and encourages their development

Individuals who wish to develop their potential for healing can come to the NFSH for advice and training. There is a national scheme of development groups for probationers and extensive educational and training programme within a structured syllabus which is available throughout the country. This is designed to support the progress of new healers and expand the knowledge and expertise of established healers.

Provides a national healer
referral service to the public
Registered healers and centres are recorded on a database at Central Office and individuals can write or telephone the Healer Referral Service for details of a healer local to them at any time – an answer-phone service is available outside normal office hours.
‘Distant’ healing can also be arranged for patients who are unable to receive ‘contact’ healing from a healer in person.

Publicises healing to a wider public
The NFSH sets out to create a better understanding of healing by regularly participating in local and national exhibitions, organizing lectures and demonstrations, and providing interviews and articles for the media, including radio and television, both in this country and overseas. The NFSH has been involved with doctors in research programmes into the effects of healing on certain illnesses.

It is an Information Centre
The NFSH deals with enquiries world wide on all aspects of healing – from radio and television, newspapers and periodicals, from educational, medical and religious organizations and from members of the general public. A wide range of books, tapes, CD’s and leaflets on healing, relaxation and other related subjects are available from Central Office, as is the quarterly house magazine ‘Healing Today’, which is available to non-members by subscription.
